Spam down 40 to 70%
Depending on who you talk to spam is down 40 to 70% since a major spam gang has been shut down in San Jose, CA.
For those of us who typically get hundreds of spam per day, it’s been nice lately to actually be able to check the junk box and not have to wade through thousands of messages to make sure that the latest message from cousin Bobbie hasn’t been tanked. We now only have to wade through hundreds.
Of course, the reason that spam exists and persists is, for the most part, twofold:
- the marginal cost of each message sent is negligible and approaches zero when spammers hack third party servers to ship their highbrow marketing;
- there are plenty of gullible people on both sides of each mass mailing of \/1agr4, since the spammers seem to have no problem finding people to pay for their services, and can deliver compelling purchase-to-message ratios like 1 in 12 million.
Some people have come up with slightly spurious math to show that spammers cumulatively kill one person every 10 days. And maybe others like the idea of literally taking spammers down.
So you have to ask yourself, are you part of the solution or part of the problem? Are you the spam equivalent of a Honda hybrid or a 1979 Dodge Power Wagon?
