Che Guevara was a murdering thug

Reason TV published a video about the celebrity impact of Che Guevara juxtaposing it with interviews by a Cuban-in-exile musician and a Chinese basketball player who played during Mao’s tenure.

The clearest point made in the segment is that people seem to very comfortable wearing clothing of mass murderers as long as they’re the communist brand of socialism as opposed to the fascist version.

Guevera was a militaristic and violent man that advocated the overthrow of government and was very comfortable killing anyone that opposed him.  He personally had thousands people killed during his time running La Cabana and had no compunction killing others in his staged rebellions in other countries.

Anyone who wears a Che (or Mao or Stalin) t-shirt or emblem is either guilty of willful ignorance or is actually suggesting that mass murder is a perfectly acceptable method of political control.  Why these monsters deserve adulation when Hitler and Pol Pot are rightly and almost universely derided is truly bizarre.

I’m pretty certain there is nothing wrong in advocating the overthrow of government if it’s despotic, and lets face it most are.

Also I can find no references anywhere to Che being a mass murderer, other than his role as an appeal court judge after the revolution in Cuba - a time when US judges were sentencing as many if not more poor Americans to death.

Anyway people where Che shirts cos he was good looking fella

Hi Sean, thanks for the comment.

If you haven’t read of his exploits as a mass murderer then you haven’t done much research - he acknowledged his murder count in more than one source.

Tossing out the crimes of another government as defence for other crimes is at best a red herring - it doesn’t make Che any less of a monster.

Most governments are despotic? You need to spend more time out of the suburbs and visit a few countries that are despotic - savour the despair of those around you. Speak to refugees that have fled their homelands because to remain behind would mean death or worse.

You’re right, it’s easier to live with a good looking murderer than an ugly one. Stalin was a strong, grandfatherly looking guy - you could pick a t-shirt with him on it. While Hitler certainly wasn’t physically charismatic, there were some good looking guys on Hitler’s staff as well. Even Mao, the biggest killer of the past 100 years is pretty stately looking.

Of course there’s nothing like sacrificing ethics and morals for fashion. Doing otherwise would require thought.
